DECATUR, Ill. (WICS) — As the weather warms up, police departments across central Illinois continue to see more crime. Officers and law enforcement look to stop the trends this year by educating the public. Summer is a time to get excited about swimming, barbeques, longer days, and swatting away mosquitoes. But reports show that the warm weather also brings around more crime in central Illinois. Shootings, arson, and more have plagued central Illinois already in 2023. According to the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), Decatur and Springfield have seen an increase in crime during the summer months.
